Royal Caribbean Independence of the Seas 2018 Refurbishments – What’s New, What’s Gone!
When the Independence of the Seas was launched in 2008 she was the largest cruise ship at sea. In only 10 years, the ship had to be refurbished to allow it to keep up with all of the latest must-haves for modern cruise ships. The dedicated library and Internet lounges have been merged into a common space because passengers demand to be able to use their personnel devices on-board the ship with wireless service. Passengers now watch Netflix onboard cruise ships in their suites – especially if children are on board with Mom and Dad. Interior spaces once occupied by the concierge areas have been removed and replaced with interior cabins; the Fitness area has been dramatically reduced in size and moved into an interior area, allowing the ship to add 40 new oceanview cabins. There is a new Waterpark, Kids Splash Zone with a new and improved Waverider and a bungee trampoline feature on the top deck. Also, a new sports lounge and “Fish and Ships” stand have been added.
